The Effects of Noise on Aquatic Life (Aquatic Noise 2022) was held from 10-15 July, in Berlin, Germany. During the
week over 14 sessions were discussed with a wide diversity of plenaries, including discussion of topics like
soundscapes, noise effects on lesser-known taxa, and priorities for regulation and management. Our researcher
Aléxia Lessa received a travel award to attend the event and present her master’s results. She discussed her
findings regarding the effects of the anthropogenic noise of small vessels on the dusky damselfish (Stegastes
fuscus) behavior. The event was an important space for debate on the effects of this neglected impact on wildlife,
including scientific advances and risk management.
