New paper: A meta-analytic approach from the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean (Brazil).

Português: Acaba de ser publicado no Journal of Environmental Management uma revisão sobre a efetividade
ecológica das Unidades de Conservação Marinhas brasileiras. O estudo, que foi realizado em parceria entre
pesquisadores do ICMBio, LBMM/UFSC e LECAR compilou dados de áreas de proteção integral restritivas e aréas
de proteção com uso sustentável. Foi observado que houve um aumento de 17% na abundância de espécies,
tamanho corporal e diversidade nas áreas onde há a proteção com uso sustentável e comparativamente um
aumento de 45% nas áreas de proteção integral. O artigo traz uma importante análise sobre a efetividade das
áreas marinhas protegidas quanto às suas diferentes formas de ocorrência. PDF

A review of the ecological effectiveness of Brazilian Marine Conservation Units has just been published in the
Journal of Environmental Management. The study, which was carried out in partnership with researchers from
ICMBio, LBMM/UFSC, and LECAR, compiled data from restrictive integral protection areas and protected areas
withsustainable use. It was observed that there was an increase of 17% in the abundance of species, body size,
anddiversity in areas where there is protection with sustainable use and a comparative increase of 45% in areas
of strict protection. The article provides an important analysis of the effectiveness of marine protected areas in
terms of their different forms of occurrence.
